
Volleyball Falls to UTEP

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team dropped its second straight match, as the team fell 3-0 to UTEP Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum.
The Miners won in three straight games, 32-30, 30-23, 30-28. UTEP improves to 5-10 on the year, getting their first C-USA win of the season, while the Pirates fall to 9-8, 0-3 in C-USA play.
Kelley Wernert and Mignon Dubenion led the Pirates with 14 kills each. Wernert added 10 digs for the double-double. Trish Monroe led the Pirates with 17 digs while Dubenion tallied 4 total blocks. Heidi Krug had 53 assists in the loss.
UTEP was led by Christie Murphy, who had 16 kills and nine digs. Amy Sanders and Keisha Hyman-Gifth also tallied double-figure kills, with 12 and 10 respectively. Elsa Reyes led the Miners with 17 digs while setter Katie Smith recorded 46 assists.
East Carolina outhit the Miners .255-.243, registering 58 kills to UTEP's 50.
East Carolina hits the road this weekend, traveling to Dallas, Texas to face SMU on Friday, Sept. 29. The team will then head to Tulsa to play the Golden Hurricanes on Sunday, Oct. 1.
