
Wernert Leads Volleyball to 3-1 Win over SMU

DALLAS, TEXAS - Kelley Wernert tallied a career-high 24 kills en route to a 3-1 East Carolina victory over SMU Friday night at Moody Coliseum.
The Pirates won in four games, 30-24, 29-31, 30-27, 30-17. With the win, the Pirates improve to 10-8, 1-3 in Conference USA action while SMU falls to 10-7, 1-3 in C-USA.
Wernert tallied her seventh double-double of the season adding 13 digs to her 24 kills. Mignon Dubenion recorded 14 kills and five blocks. Freshman Melissa Zentner registered her first double-digit kill night, with 13 on the evening. Stephanie Turner added 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore libero Trish Monroe put up a career-best 28 digs while setter Heidi Krug had 65 assists.
Caitlin Rainbird posted a double-double performance with 14 kills and 17 digs. Rachel Giubilato posted 23 kills on the night with five digs. Kendra Kahanek added 11 kills and six blocks while Adrienne Zielasko also had six blocks.
East Carolina continues its road weekend, heading to Tulsa to play the Golden Hurricanes on Sunday, Oct. 1. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
