NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Chris Moore tied his career-high with 22 points and David Gomez added 20 points to lead Tulane to an 88-72 Conference USA victory Wednesday over East Carolina.
The victory guaranteed the Green Wave (15-12, 8-7) its first winning season in four years.
Tulane trailed just once in the contest when East Carolina's Courtney Captain drilled a three-pointer to give the Pirates a 12-9 advantage, which marked their largest lead of the game.
The Green Wave quickly responded when Gomez was fouled on a lay-up, but his shot found its mark, and he connected on the free throw for the conventional three-point play and tied the game, 12-12. The play, however, ignited an 18-4 Green Wave run over the next four minutes that culminated with a lay-up by Kory Castine to give Tulane an 11-point, 27-16, lead with 10:05 remaining in the first half.
ECU quickly erased its double-digit deficit and cut the Tulane lead to two, 29-27, in less than three minutes.
A pair of bookend 3s by Moore pushed the Green Wave out to a 15-point lead, 42-27, as it outscored ECU 13-0 over the next 3:22. Tulane led by 16 points at halftime, 52-36.
Courtney Captain scored 17 points to pace ECU (6-22, 1-14), while Darrell Jenkins added 15, Brandon Evans had 11 and Cory Farmer finished with 10.
The Pirates closed within 10 points twice after halftime, but never got the Tulane lead down to single digits.
