
Lady Pirates Sail Past High Point, 6-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Behind the strength of a doubles sweep and five singles victories, East Carolina posted a season-opening 6-1 win over High Point Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Pirates (1-0), pulled out all three doubles matches to snatch the first point from the Panthers (1-1). Alex Smith and Brooke Walter took the No. 1 match 8-5, Jessica Cook and Mireia Gol handed Kelly Tolman and Caroline Mount an 8-3 setback at No. 2 and Tamara Sachs and Vairina Soler recorded an 8-4 victory over Iris Schabetsberaer and Angie Herman at No. 3.
In ECU's five singles wins, Cook cruised past LePottier 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 at No. 1, Soler outlasted Tolman 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 at No. 2, Walter dispatched Becci Carr 6-0, 7-6(2) at No. 3, Sachs turned back Schabetsberaer 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 5 and Priest registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wicks at No. 6. High Point's lone tally came as a result of Mount's 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Borges in the No. 4 match up.
East Carolina will head to Boiling Springs Saturday as it takes on Gardner-Webb. The match is scheduled for 12 p.m.
