Lady Pirates Show Well At Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis team competed in the two-day Wofford Invitational Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C. on October 4-5 in a singles/doubles flighted event against Gardner-Webb, South Carolina Upstate and Wofford College. In total, the Lady Pirates picked up 13 singles victories and seven doubles triumphs.
Individually, three Lady Pirates won their singles flights - sophomore Audrey LePottier (No. 3 Singles), junior Brooke Walter (No. 4 Singles) and freshman Natalie Collins (No. 5 Singles). LePottier took out Rita Gouvia of Gardner-Webb (6-1, 6-3), Ashley Lawrence from Wofford (6-2, 6-2) and USCU's Carolina Bello (6-4, retired). Additionally, Walter defeated Amy Beavers of the Bulldogs (7-5, 6-2), teammate Kristin Gordon (6-0, 6-1) and Daniela Lovera of the Spartans (6-3, 3-2 retired) while Collins bested Gardner-Webb's Allie Mills (6-0, 6-0), teammate Tamara Sachs (6-1, 6-2) and Vivian Neuenschwander of USCU (6-4, 6-3).
In doubles action, LePottier and Collins teamed up to produce a 3-0 mark. The pair dispatched Jenyn Gomez and Amy Beavers from Gardner Webb (8-3), Bello and Neuenschwander (8-6) and Cayley Wetzig of Wofford and teammate Sheela Iyengar (8-5).
All the Lady Pirates saw action in the two-day event, with Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler each going 1-2 in singles play at Courts One and Two, respectively. Sachs and freshman Rothio Cabinallas split duties at the No. 6 singles position for a combined 2-1 record.
East Carolina returns to fall play Oct. 24-25 at the Doubles Shootout in Cary, N.C.
