Teams Split Annual Intrasquad Meet

GREENVILLE, N.C. ---- Six meet records were set Friday afternoon as the East Carolina men and women's swimming and diving team held its annual Purple-Gold intrasquad meet at Minges Aquatic Center.
The Gold team won the men's meet, 131-129, while the Purple team claimed victory in the women's meet, 129-120.
"It was one of the fastest and most competitive Purple-Gold meets we've ever had," said head coach Rick Kobe. "We are right on target for where we want to be."
Freshman Ailton Temotio set a pair of meet records on Friday winning both the 50 (21.13) and 100 free (47.13) events. He was one of nine swimmers to record a pair of first place finishes.
Sophomore Andrew Stoker established a new meet record in the 100 fly (51.15), while also helping freshman Miles Maximini, sophomore Tommy Ryan and junior Jason Guzewich set a new mark in the 200 medley relay (1:36.34). Stoker was also the fastest swimmer in the 200 fly.
Other multiple event winners on the men's side included junior Hunter Mehaffey in the 100 and 200 back and sophomores Thiago Cavalcanti in the 500 and 1,000 free and Tommy Ryan in the 100 and 200 breast.
Senior Amanda Duncan aided freshman Kelsey Brosi, sophomore Courtney Harris and junior Rachel Blue in doing the same in the women's 200 medley relay (1:49.53), while also establishing a new meet record in the women's 100 fly (56.83). Duncan also touched first in the 200 fly.
Four additional lady swimmers recorded multiple event victories: freshman Caitlin Marsilli in the 500 and 1,000 free; sophomore Jenna Stewart in the 50 and 100 free; freshman Kelsey Brosi in the 100 and 200 back and junior Jackie Jones in the 100 and 200 breast.
The Pirates will open their dual meet Saturday in Huntington, W.Va. against West Virginia and Xavier. The ladies will also compete against Conference USA foe Marshall. The meet is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
