
Cavalcanti Sets Three Varsity Records

ATLANTA --- East Carolina sophomore swimmer Thiago Cavalcanti set three school records at the U.S. Short Course National held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta this past weekend.
Cavalcanti set varsity records in the 500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle, twice breaking his own ECU varsity records.
Cavalcanti broke the 500-yard freestyle record of 4:28.59 by more than a second, touching in a time of 4:27.49. It eclipsed his personal best mark of 4:29.62 by more than two seconds.
He smashed his own record in the 1650-yard freestyle by nearly seven seconds. Cavalcanti went the distance in a time of 15:32.68, breaking the mark of 15:39.10 he set as freshman last season.
He also established a 1,000-yard freestyle record during his 1650-yard swim with a split time of 9:20.78, again breaking his own school record of 9:25.75 that he set as a rookie.
