GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Cory Farmer scored 20 points and East Carolina snapped a five-game losing streak by routing SMU 82-54 on Wednesday night.
Sam Hinnant scored 15 points and Jamar Abrams and John Fields added 14 apiece for the Pirates (9-17, 3-10 Conference USA), who moved one spot above the Mustangs (8-18, 2-11) into 10th place in the league standings.
Gabe Blair finished with 10 points for East Carolina, who overwhelmed the Mustangs by outscoring them 35-12 over the final 15 minutes of the first half.
The Pirates made 10 first half 3s en route to a 47-22 halftime advantage, their largest halftime lead of the season.
ECU made 15 3s in all, second highest total in school history, shooting 62.5 percent from behind the arc (15-of-24) and 51.7 percent (30-of-58)from the floor. The Pirates were credited with 25 assists on 30 made baskets, including 11 helpers from Darrell Jenkins.
SMU shot just 39 percent overall (23-of-59) and a mere 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range.
The Pirates, who surrendered an average of 83 points during its five-game losing streak, held the Mustangs under 60 points for just the third time this season.
Farmer, who sank a career-best six 3s, ignited the Pirates' first half flurry with his second three of the half sparking a 19-5 run in which ECU made five 3s. Farmer and Hinnant each made four 3s before halftime.
The Pirates' lead jumped to 25 two minutes before halftime as Jenkins' scored his only points of the game.
East Carolina maintained a 20-point lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 33.
Papa Dia led the Mustangs with 16 points and Derrick Roberts added 12 points as they dropped their fifth straight game overall and eighth consecutive on the road.
