GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis team's non-conference match against South Carolina State Saturday at the ECU Tennis Complex was cancelled shortly after the start of action because of severe weather warnings in the Pitt County area.
No make-up date is expected to be announced for a match between the Lady Pirates and Lady Bulldogs this season.
With the cancellation of its regular season finale, East Carolina (16-5) will now begin preparations for the 2008 Conference USA Championship Tournament, which opens Thursday at the University of Houston.
The cancellation also forced an early end to the Lady Pirates' Senior Day activities, but a pre-match ceremony was conducted to honor the careers of Luiza Borges, Mireia Gol, Zandy Overcash, Hannah Priest and Alex Smith for their significant contributions to the program. In all, the quintet helped ECU break or tie three consecutive single-season victory records in 2005 (17-9), 2006 (19-9) and 2007 (19-10).
