Handsfield Earns Postgraduate Scholarship

IRVING, Texas --- Geoff Handsfield, a former member of the East Carolina men's swimming team, has been named one of 11 recipients of the Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarship Awards. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Handsfield was the three-year captain of the Pirate swim team after winning the ECU Rookie Award in 2005. A member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal List, Handsfield also twice earned ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
The Morehead City, N.C. plans a six-week trip to Turkey this summer, before beginning graduate coursework at East Carolina in applied physics. Handsfield has applied to several doctoral programs and hopes to earn a degree in medical physics.
