Maness Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman pitcher Seth Maness was named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball Wednesday afternoon becoming the ninth Pirate freshman to be named an all-american and the first since Shane Mathews in 2004.
Maness, who was named third-team Louisville Slugger All-American last week, completed his inaugural season with a school freshman record nine wins tying him with Justin Bristow for the team lead in wins. He was 9-2 on the year, posted a 3.57 ERA with 81 strikeouts, 20 walks and allowed 49 runs (39 earned).
The Pinehurst, N.C. native racked-up on postseason Conference USA accolades taking home Freshman-of-the-Year honors, was a first-team and C-USA All-Freshman Team selection. Earlier in the season he was named to the Roger Clemens Award Watch List and became the first ECU starting pitcher to begin a season 8-0.
Maness finished the season ranked among the league leaders in wins (t-1st); innings pitched and batters struck out looking (2nd); games started (3rd); strikeouts (5th); ERA and opposing batting average (eighth).
The Pirates (42-21) finished the season with its second consecutive 40-plus win season and made its 23rd NCAA Regional appearance in school history and the ninth in the last 10 years.
