GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman Seth Maness picked up a school-record seventh All-America honor when he was named First-Team Freshman All-America by Rivals.com Tuesday afternoon.
The Pinehurst, N.C. native, who was named Conference USA Freshman-of-the-Year, had one of the best freshman seasons in Pirate history after posting a 9-2 record with a 3.27 ERA and 81 strikeouts with just 20 walks in 98.1 pitched. Maness became just the second freshmen in ECU history to win nine games (Mickey Britt, 1977).
With his Rivals.com first-team selection, Maness is the first Pirate freshman to be named to seven All-America teams, five of those coming on freshman teams. He is the only Pirate in school history to be selected to seven all-america squads in the same season.
