Trish Monroe Is Defensive Player-Of-The-Week

IRVING, Texas - Following another week of top-notch play, senior defensive specialist Trish Monroe was rewarded by being named the Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week, the league office announced Monday.
Monroe tallied 59 digs over last week's four matches against Campbell, Delaware, Wake Forest and Western Michigan. She also averaged an impressive 4.92 digs per set during those four contests. While facing the Broncos, she collected 20 digs, giving her five matches this season with 20 digs or more after having just eight such matches last season. At the conclusion of the Black & Gold Challenge, Monroe was named to the All-Tournament Team, marking the second weekend in a row that she has been selected to an All-Tournament team.
For the year, Monroe has dug out 189 balls, the highest number in C-USA. In the most recent NCAA statistics released on Sept. 14, Monroe was ranked 36th in the country with 4.73 digs per set. Tracy Lam of Rice (22nd with 4.95 digs per set) was the only other member of Conference USA to crack the NCAA top-50 in that category.
Conference USA also named Visnja Djurdjevic of Tulane Offensive Player-of-the-Week after her MVP performance at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic, which helped Tulane to a 3-0 showing. The Setter-of-the-Week award went to Nevena Stefanov of UAB, who averaged 9.83 assists per set and dished out a total of 118 for the weekend to lead the Blazers to the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic title.
Monroe and the Pirates will return to the court on Wednesday night for a home match against the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Minges Coliseum.
