Two Lady Pirates Named To 25th Anniversary Team

RICHMOND, Va. --- Former East Carolina standouts Sylvia Bragg and Tonya Hargrove have been named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball Silver Anniversary Team as selected by a panel of current and former head coaches in the conference.
At the conclusion of the 1985-86 season, Bragg became the first student-athlete to be named CAA Player-of-the-Year as she averaged 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game during the league's first year of inception. Bragg earned all-conference honors three times, the first two of which came during the ECAC-South era. She graduated as the school's fourth all-time leading scorer and currently ranks ninth on the list.
Hargrove was a three-time first-team all-conference player and was named CAA Player-of-the-Year for 1990-91 as she led the league in scoring (17.7 ppg) and field goal percentage (.538). She also led the Pirates in scoring (16.2 ppg) the following season as a senior. She still ranks fourth on the school's career scoring list with 1,532 points. She was inducted into the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.

Jordan (Old Dominion), Kyra Kaylor (William and Mary), Clarisse Machanguana (Old Dominion), Hamchetou Maiga (Old Dominion), Tiara Malcom (Delaware), Gabriela Marginean (Drexel), Ticha Penicheiro (Old Dominion), Nyree Roberts (Old Dominion), Tyresa Smith (Delaware) and Tamera Young (James Madison).
The CAA was formed in 1983 as the ECAC-South basketball league and reorganized as the CAA in 1985 when it added championships in other sports. ECU was one of eight charter members of the CAA that included American, George Mason, James Madison, Navy, Richmond, UNC Wilmington and William & Mary.
