Pirates Sweep Dual Meet At Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The East Carolina swimming and diving teams each picked up wins over Davidson as the men's team won 167-120 while the women's team cruised to a 183-116 victory. The Pirates won 19 of the evening's 32 events. It was the second consecutive win for both teams, which are now 2-1 on the season and have won 19 consecutive dual meets against the Wildcats.
The ladies got off to a quick start earning a first place finish in each of the meet's first five individual events. Catlin Marsilii took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.09 followed by first place finishes in the 200 free by Rachel Blue (1:55.03), 100 back by Kayla Ford (59.33), 100 breast by Stephanie Harper (1:05.62) and the 200 fly by Jackie Jones (2:09.07).
Blue, Harper and Jones were each multi-event winners with Blue claiming first in the 500 free (5:06.84) as did Harper in the 200 breast (2:25.10) and Jones in the 400 IM (4:30.28). Kelsey Brosi also earned a first place finish as she touched first in the 200 back (2:06.84).
Four members of the men's swimming team earned first place finishes. Jonathan Bailey led off the meet with a victory in the 1000 free (10.04.93). Chris Borysewicz and Jason Guzewich then posted consecutive first place finishes. Borysewicz earned his first collegiate victory with a time of 1:55.70 in the 200 fly before Guzewich touched first in the 50 free (21.80).
Thiago Cavalcanti beat his next closest competitor by four seconds to win the 500 free (4:41.94) before Ailton Temotio touched first in the 100 fly (52.00).
ECU sophomore Meghan Coyne placed first on both springboards while breaking the Davidson one-meter record and the ECU varsity record with a score of 309.08. On the three-meter board she scored 291.45 to qualify for the NCAA Regional Zone Championships in just her second competition of the year.. In the men's diving events, Tyler Dunsmore and Alex Cohen placed one and two, respectively, in both events in an uncontested competition.
The Pirates return home on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a tri-meet with Campbell, Marshall and Towson.
