
ECU Sweeps Weekly C-USA Awards

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina senior Rachel Blue and sophomore Meghan Coyne were awarded this week's Conference USA Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday. Blue won the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle and posted a 4-0 record in individual competition. Coyne earned her second-straight Diver-of-the-Week award, by qualifying for the NCAA Regional Zone Championships and breaking both a Davidson and ECU one-meter record with a score of 309.08.
Blue won all four of her events in individual competition during a pair of dual meets against Gardner-Webb and Davidson. The senior won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle at both meets. She posted the fastest time over the weekend with a 200 free time of 1:55.03 against Gardner-Webb and 500 free time of 5:06.44 at Davidson. This marks Blue's first-career Swimmer-of-the-Week award.
Coyne placed first on both springboards while breaking the Davidson one-meter record and the ECU record with a score of 309.08. On the three-meter board she scored 291.45 and qualified for the NCAA Regional Zone Championships. The sophomore qualified for the NCAA one-meter board the previous week. This is Coyne's third-career Diver-of-the-Week Award and her second of the 2009-10 season.
The Pirates return to competition Saturday, October 24, with a quad-meet against Campbell, Marshall and Towson. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Minges Aquatic Center.
