
Swimmers Finish Record Dual Meet Season

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from William & Mary Saturday afternoon to complete its dual meet season with a combined record of 18-2-1 which equals a winning percentage of .860, the highest combined winning percentage in school history.
The women's team improved to 9-1 overall with a 163-137 victory, while the men's team earned a 189.5-106.5 win to finish with a record of 8-1-1.
Senior Amanda Duncan continued her domination of the butterfly events, posting first place finishes in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Stephanie Harper also won a pair of events, touching first in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Freshman Caitlin Marsilli took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle as did her classmate Lauren Dufault in the 400 IM. Freshman Meghan Coyne earned the highest score on the one-meter diving board as well.
Sophomore Thiago Cavalcanti captured first place honors in three events: 200-yard butterfly, 400 IM and 1,000-yard freestyle. Fellow sophomore Tommy Ryan was also a multiple-event winner, touching first in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Ailton Temotio captured two first-place finishes, winning both the 100-yard butterfly and freestyle.
Other first place finishers for the ECU men's team included: Roman Sandler (100 backstroke), Blake Briese (500 freestyle) and Cliff Kohut (one-meter diving).
The Pirates will next compete at the 2009 Conference USA Championships in Houston beginning February 25.
