GREENVILLE, N.C. - After posting a 4-1 week, which included a win over in-state rival No. 26 UNC Wilmington and a Conference USA series victory over Marshall, the East Carolina baseball team found themselves ranked in four national polls this week.
The Pirates (20-5, 5-1 C-USA) were tabbed No. 16 by Baseball America, their highest ranking by the publication since Mar. 26, 2007 when they garnered a No. 19 placement. ECU is also ranked No. 16 by the National Baseball Collegiate Writers Association (NCBWA), No. 18 by the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll and No. 29 by Collegiate Baseball.
ECU's appearance in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll marks the first time since April 2, 2007 that the Pirates have been ranked in four polls during the same week. It is also the first time since the 2004 season they have spent seven consecutive weeks in the national polls.
The Pirates will back on the diamond Tuesday, Mar. 31 when they play host to in-state foe Elon with a 6 p.m. first pitch scheduled. ECU will then hit the road for a midweek contest against NC State on April 1, (6:30 p.m.) before traveling to Birmingham, Ala. for a three-game Conference USA tilt with UAB.
