GREENVILLE, N.C. -Â The East Carolina Pirates start another homestand on Tuesday, with NC State marking the next opponent to face the Pirates at Lewis Field in Clark LeClair Stadium. East Carolina comes back to Greenville with their five-game win streak recently broken by the Tulane Green Wave, who ultimately won the three-game series 2-1. Â

TULANE RECAP
The Pirates dropped a hard-fought American Conference series on the road this weekend, falling in two out of three games to the Tulane Green Wave at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The weekend opened with a defensive battle on Friday as the Pirates fell 4-1. ECU's lone run came in the second inning when Matthew Lashley singled to left field, scoring Colby Wallace, but the Pirates were unable to overcome a two-run Tulane home run in the fourth despite out-hitting the Green Wave 6-5. Luke Payne took the loss on the mound, while Gavin Marley provided three solid innings of scoreless relief to close out the night.Â
The Pirates bounced back on Saturday evening with a strong offensive showing. They evened the series with a 9-6 victory. The highlight was a sixth-inning grand slam by Michael Kalinich, giving the Pirates a 6-2 lead. Tulane tied the game again in the seventh, but ECU responded in the eighth. Jeff Sabater scored on a passed ball for the lead. Colby Wallace singled in a run, and a fielding error allowed two more runs. Joseph Webb got the win in relief. Sean Jenkins earned his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.Â
In Sunday's rubber match, the Pirates jumped out to an early lead behind solo home runs from Grady Lenahan and Michael Kalinich. ECU added a third run in the fourth inning when Jack Herring scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 3-1, but the Green Wave responded with a three-run bottom of the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Pirate bats were held quiet over the final five innings, managing only five hits total in the 6-3 loss. Charlie Hoagland was tagged with the defeat as Tulane added insurance runs in the seventh to secure the series victory.Â
TOUCHING BASE
Jack Herring is currently on a 36-game on-base streak for the Pirates, now being one of 18 Pirates to have reached base in at least 30 games since 1998. Herring has been able to reach base safely in every game he has started this season, with 36. Herring is currently tied with Stephen Batts (5/22/08-4/4/09) for eighth overall. The longest on-base streak the Pirates hold is 56, held by Connor Norby from March 1, 2020, to May 20, 2021.Â
A WEEKEND FOR KALINICH
Michael Kalinich found himself in a last-minute start on Friday night, due to Walker Barron coming down with an illness, and he took that opportunity home and more. Kalinich finished the weekend going 5-for-11 and earning a DH start on Sunday for the series finale. Kalinich had not one, but two home runs over the weekend, one being his first career grand slam off the first pitch to aid the Pirates in their win against Tulane on April 11. Â
PIRATES COME HOME
Coming back from a weekend away in New Orleans, the Pirates' next seven or eight games will be back at Lewis Field in Clark LeClair Stadium. Starting with the midweek game against NC State on Tuesday, followed by hosting Wichita State for the fourth week of conference play. With a break in the home contests on April 21 in Norfolk against Old Dominion, ECU will then come back to Greenville to host one more conference series against South Florida. The Pirates are currently 15-6 at home, and 5-1 in conference play at home, with the most recent loss being against UAB on March 22. Â
ECU VS. NC STATE HISTORY
NC State holds the overall record over East Carolina, 21-36. The Pirates and Wolfpack were scheduled to meet twice in 2025, but the series finale set in Raleigh was canceled due to weather. The Pirates ultimately fell to NC State in Greenville for their one midweek in 2025, losing 4-1. The latest time the Pirates came out victorious over the Wolfpack was in April 2024, when the Pirates took both midweeks in Greenville and in Raleigh to sweep NC State. Â Â
ABOUT NC STATE
The NC State Wolfpack currently holds a 24-12 overall record and an 8-7 mark in ACC play following a resilient mid-season stretch. After a challenging late-March stretch in which they dropped seven consecutive games, the Wolfpack have found their footing again in April, most recently securing a pivotal series win over Duke at Doak Field. This resurgence has been led by a powerful offense featuring Andrew Wiggins and Ty Head, alongside standout pitching from Heath Andrews, who has stepped up following the season-ending injury to Jacob Dudan. With a top-10 ranking earlier in the year and a strong 20-7 record at home, the Pack has proven they can compete with the nation's best as they head into a critical home-and-home stretch against East Carolina and high-stakes conference series against Wake Forest and North Carolina.Â
First pitch on April 14 is set for 6:00 p.m. EST. Â
