
ECU Women's Tennis Shuts Out Barton, 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad rolled past Barton 7-0 Saturday night, posting a combined singles mark of 72-2 after claiming the doubles point with a 24-3 ledger.
The victory marked a successful close to the regular season for the Lady Pirates, who now will enter next week's Conference USA Championship Tournament on a four-match win streak and a 14-6 overall record. Barton fell to 3-13 with the loss.
Natalie Collins and Sheelah Iyengar opened the action with an 8-0 doubles victory over Ahdai Newsome and Kristen Packer in a No. 3 meeting before Tamara Sachs and Brooke Walter clinched the first tally with an 8-1 triumph against Blair Burke and Lindsay Toth at the No. 2 slot.
ECU registered 6-0 wins in 10 of 12 singles sets, including match shutouts by Jessica Cook at No. 2, Walter at No. 4, Sachs at No. 5 and Iyengar at No. 6. In addition, top-seeded senior Varinia Soler turned in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Toth in her last career home appearance, while Collins posted a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Summer Chase at No. 3.
The Lady Pirates will now begin preparation efforts for the league tourney, which is scheduled to open Thursday in Houston, Texas.
