HIGH POINT, N.C. - East Carolina surrendered just 12 singles points and combined to produce a 24-3 doubles mark as the Lady Pirates swept North Carolina Central 7-0 in women's tennis action late Friday night at the Oak Hollow Racquet Club.
The victory extended ECU's winning streak to three straight and pushed its record to 13-6. The Eagles, who suffered a similar shutout to the Lady Pirates Feb. 13 in Greenville, dropped to 3-14 with the loss.
East Carolina quickly earned the doubles point with consecutive 8-1 victories in all three matchups. Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler rolled past Kateryna Chorna and Ashley Rogers at No. 1, Tamara Sachs and Brooke Walter defeated Maria Medina and Tatiana Velasquez at No. 2 and Natalie Collins and Sheelah Iyengar dismissed Maritsann Sinclair and Antoinnette Spain in a No. 3 meeting.
ECU outscored North Carolina Central 72-12 in singles play, using straight-set victories by Cook (No. 1), Soler (No. 2), Collins (No. 3), Walker (No. 4), Sachs (No. 5) and Iyengar (No. 6).
The Lady Pirates will complete their regular season schedule Saturday by hosting Barton College in a match scheduled to begin at 5 p.m before preparing for the C-USA Women's Tennis Championships April 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
