MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (andysburgers.net) - Andy's Burgers Shakes and Fries, a 50's-themed restaurant, brings the opportunity to meet rock-n-roll legend Chubby Checker AND watch ten contestants compete in the Andy's Ultimate Big A Challenge.
The ten will vie for a $1,000 prize and be the fastest to consume the Andy's 50 oz. burger, plus fries and a drink.
The big event is Wednesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. at East Carolina University's Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, prior to the Pirates' 6 p.m. game against North Carolina.
Among the eating contestants are several North Carolina residents and two nationally ranked eaters. According to the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters, last year's reining champ Joe "The Gentleman" Menchetti is now ranked fourth, while North Carolina's own Joshua "Jabber Jaws" Currier currently stands eighth.
Although Checker will not try to down an Andy's burger in record time, he will sign autographs, be available for media interviews and then throw out the first pitch for the highly anticipated in-state rivalry clash.
"What could be more exciting than these two great competitions? One a battle of athleticism, the other a battle of the burger," Andy's Burgers, Shakes and Fries founder and President Kenney Moore said. "And to have a star like Chubby Checker is just the cherry on top of an Andy's shake."
The 67-year-old Checker is still touring and singing, and last year, his hit song "The Twist" was named the biggest chart hit of all time by Billboard Magazine.

About Andy's Burgers, Shakes and Fries: Nearly twenty years ago, Kenny Moore started with one restaurant in Goldsboro, North Carolina and an idea of how a burger-joint should be run. His concept of preparing the food fresh to order at an affordable price caught on.
Now there are more than 100 locations throughout the state. Most locations are individually owned and operated, but adhere to Moore's philosophy of service and quality. In 1996, Moore wanted to do something to give back to the communities that made his business a success and created the "Andy's Foundation", a charity that specializes in children and youth programs.
