GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's Patrick Somers and Kyle Roller were recently named Players-of-the-Week for their respective leagues for a pair of impressive weekly performances.
Somers, the Clark Griffith League Pitcher-of-the-Week (July 28), worked seven innings allowing two unearned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks in an 8-2 win against the Vienna Senators on July 21. With the win Somers improved to 3-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.49.
Roller picked up his second Cape Cod League Player-of-the-Week (August 3) honor after slugging three home runs. On the week Roller batted .348 and slugged an astronomical .739 in seven games for the Braves. He was the catalyst for the team's run production this week, scoring seven runs and driving in six.
The Rockingham, N.C. native, who was named a Cape League All-Star, continues to be one of the league's most feared sluggers. He is the league's third leading hitter at .333, the leading home run hitter with nine, third with 26 runs batted in, first in slugging percentage (.622) and extra-base hits (20), and second in runs scored with 29.
