GREENVILLE, N.C. -Â The East Carolina Pirates (17-12-1, 3-3 American) keep their homestand going through the weekend to host Charlotte (18-10, 3-3 American) starting Thursday, April 2. Due to Easter Sunday being a holiday, the three-game conference series will start on Thursday, with the series finale on Saturday, April 4.Â
UNCW MIDWEEK RECAP
The Pirates secured a season sweep of UNCW on Tuesday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium, pulling away late for a 14–8 victory. ECU established an early 8–1 lead through the first five innings, fueled by a dominant performance from Grady Lenahan, who delivered a solo home run and a three-run double. Walker Barron also contributed to the early surge with a two-run squeeze bunt in the fifth. While UNCW mounted a late-inning comeback to pull within a single run by the top of the eighth, the Pirates responded with a six-run explosion in the bottom half of the frame to seal the win.Â
Offensively, Lenahan led the way by finishing a triple shy of the cycle with five RBI, while Davin Whitaker added three RBI of his own in a 3-for-4 effort off the bench. Colby Wallace and Jack Herring were also instrumental in the high-scoring affair, combining for five runs scored and four hits. On the mound, Gavin Marley earned the win in relief after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.Â
FRESHMAN FOR THE WIN
Grady Lenahan has played an Important role in the Pirates' lineup and is making waves among the Pirates as a freshman. The Outfielder from Bristow, Virginia, has climbed his way up the lineup, being consistent in the two & three hole while recording at least one hit in 19 of 30 games played. Lenahan is one of four Pirates who have started all 30 games this year, playing a pivotal part in center field. After the sixth home run of his career against UNCW (3/31), he now leads the Pirates in home runs, with senior Jack Herring right behind him with five. In one instance this season, Lenahan hit three home runs in three consecutive games, an accomplishment last achieved by Jacob Sterling in April of 2024. Â
NORBY THROWING PUNCHES
Ethan Norby had a commendable outing on Friday night in the series opener against UTSA, being able to reach his season high in strikeouts (12), while only giving up one hit and three walks in 7.0 innings of work, and also throwing a combined shutout with reliever Joseph Webb. Norby was able to face 26 batters with 108 pitches and ultimately became victorious to get the lone win for the Pirates against UTSA. Norby received American Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 30 for his performance at Roadrunner Field.Â
TWO-OUT TALLIES
The Pirates have had a lot of success scoring runs in a two-out situation. East Carolina is currently 15-4-1 when it comes to having an inning with two outs scoring. The Pirates have had a total of 25 innings in which they have scored two or more runs with two outs on the board.Â
