
Pirates Sweep Weekly Swimming Honors

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina's Jenna Stewart and Kirstie Russell were named Conference USA Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Week as announced by the league office, Tuesday. Stewart won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, while Russell set the Old Dominion pool record and ECU freshman record for the 1-meter dive with a score of 297.38.
Stewart earned two first-place finishes in a dual meet against Old Dominion Saturday. The junior claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.73 and then won the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 51.78. This is Stewart's second career Swimmer-of-the-Week award.
Russell set an Old Dominion pool and ECU freshman record on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 297.38 to earn first-place honors and spot in the NCAA Regional Championships. The Feura Bush, N.Y., native also finished in third place on the 3-meter dive with a score of 238.5. This marks Russell's first career Diver-of-the-Week accolade.
East Carolina returns to competition Wednesday, Jan. 20, against N.C. State in Raleigh.
