
ECU Tops Davidson For First Victory

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving team earned a sweep against Davidson on Friday. The men defeated the Wildcats 194.5-97.5, while the women won 174-121. It was the first victory of the season for each squad.
The women (1-1) produced seven different individual event winners with junior Kelsey Brosi winning three of four events. She touched first in the 200 free (1:53.65) and 200 back (2:04.08), while helping the 200 free relay (1:35.94) nearly set a pool record.
The ladies dominated the diving events with junior Meghan Coyne sweeping the competition. Coyne posted a pool record score of 319.85 points on the one-meter springboard. Coyne tallied a score of 312.30 on the three-meter springboard followed by teammates Katie Yamamoto and Kirstie Russell in second and third-place. Yamamoto also finished second on the one-meter board.
On the men's side, the Pirates (1-1) captured their first victory behind multi-event victories from a trio of seniors. Thiago Cavalcanti took first in the 100 free (48.00) as well as the 1,000 free (9:36.99). Andrew Stoker was victorious in the swept 100 (51.66) and 200 (1:54.94) butterfly, while Roman Sandler posted wins in the 100 (51.63) and 200 back (1:55.51). ECU earned first-place finishes in four additional events.
The Pirates took first, second and third in both diving events. Sophomore Tyler Dunsmore won the one-meter competition followed by freshman Andrew Galvagni in second. the rookie beat out his teammate on the three-meter board. Kyle Comiskey earned third-place honors in both events.
ECU returns to competition Saturday, Oct. 23, with a tri-meet against Georgetown and Towson. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Towson, Md.
