Pirates Win Three Of Four On The Road

TOWSON, Md. --- The East Carolina men's swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events to sweep a tri-meet against Georgetown and Towson Saturday afternoon, while the ladies' team defeated Georgetown but lost to Towson.
The men posted a 238-60 win over Towson and a 240-58 win against Georgetown to improve to 3-1 this season. The women's team is 2-2 this year after defeating the Hoyas 208-91 and losing to the Tigers, 179-121.
Senior Roman Sandler recorded three first-place finishes, touching first in the 100 back (52.06), 200 back (1:56.14) and 200 IM (1:58.29). He won both backstroke events by over a second, but touched just 0.54 ahead of teammate Turner Haigwood in the 200 IM. The Pirates took the top two spots in nine and finished one, two and three in three events, including both diving competitions.
Sophomore diver Tyler Dunsmore (286.95) captured first-place on the one-meter springboard, while freshman Andrew Galvagni (308.75) posted the top score on the three-meter. Dunsmore earned second-place on three-meter board as did Galvagni on the one-meter. Kyle Comiskey took third-place in both events.
Seniors Thiago Cavalcanti and Tommy Ryan were also multi-event winners. Cavalcanti was the first-place winner in the 200 (52.06) and 500 free (4:38.54). Ryan swept the breaststroke events with a time of 58.86 in the 100 and 2:10.67 in the 200.
Other individual event winners included: Chris Borysewicz (200 fly, 1:54.36), Geoffrey Bobsin (100 free, 47.76) and Andrew Stoker (100 fly, 50.16).
Senior Jenna Stewart and freshman Anna Gibas were the lone individual event winners for the ECU women's team.
Stewart proved to be the fastest sprinter today winning the 50 (23.71) and 100 free (51.39); while Gibas won the 100 (57.55) and 200 back (2:05.33).
ECU won both the men's and women's 400 free relay with the men also winning the 200 medley relay.
The Pirates return to action Nov. 13 with a tri-meet against Campbell and College of Charleston. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
