GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Five seniors have been elected captains of the 2010-11 East Carolina men and women's swimming and diving team announced head coach Rick Kobe Monday. Lauren Dufault and Courtney Harris will serve as co-captains of the women's squad, while the Thiago Cavalcanti, Andrew Christian and Andrew Stoker have been selected as tri-captains for the men's team.
"We are very happy with the selections of captains for this season," Pirate coach Rick Kobe said. "Courtney and Lauren are both terrific leaders and will be a great example for other Lady Pirates.
"On the men's side, Stoker will be a second-year captain. He possesses a lot of leadership qualities that we look for in a captain. Thiago and Christian will also provide a good example to our underclassmen and bring a lot of enthusiasm to the men's team."
Dufault and Harris are each three-time Conference USA Championship finalists and each ranks among the school's all-time top 10 in the 400-yard IM.
Cavalcanti, who holds four individual ECU varsity records, is a three-time recipient of the Pirates' Most Outstanding Male Swimmer Award and three-time All-Conference USA performer. Christian is also a multi-year C-USA performer as he earned all-league accolades in 2008 and '10. Stoker, who served as co-captain last season, received the team's Mot Improved Award as a junior after setting the varsity record in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Pirates will officially open the 2010-11 campaign Friday, Oct. 8, against North Carolina at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
