Women's Hoops Signs Tatiana Chapple

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Tatiana Chapple has signed a national letter-of-intent to play for and attend East Carolina University beginning in the fall of 2011, according to an announcement by head coach Heather Macy Monday.
"We are very pleased to have Tatiana Chapple join the East Carolina women's basketball family," Macy said. "She comes to us from an elite high school program in Ohio. Tatiana scores well around the basket and is an aggressive rebounder - two aspects which will undoubtedly help us in the future. She is a great addition to our recruiting class and will really complement our other two signees Courtney Melvin and Ja'Nesha Ebron."
Chapple, a six foot forward who is ranked 102 at her position nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz, joins the Pirates from Northland High School in Columbus, Ohio where she has helped the varsity squad to a three-year record of 56-11. Last season, she averaged 5.9 points, seven rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and leading the Vikings to the district semifinals. Northland also tied Brookhaven High School for the City North title with a 13-1 league mark. Additionally, Chapple was named to the All-City Girl's Basketball Team as an honorable mention selection and garnered Northland's defensive player-of-the-year award. She has been selected a team captain for the 2010-11 season.
"Tatiana is known as a lockdown defender around central Ohio where women's basketball is currently at its highest level," Northland Varsity Head Coach Dean Washington remarked. "She has the ability to guard any player on the floor. Tatiana has a tremendous upside as a basketball player but even more potential to represent East Carolina University academically and serve the Greenville community well. She is a quality young lady who has always done things the right way."
Chapple is also a standout track athlete, helping Northland to the City League championship her sophomore and junior seasons. She was a regional qualifier in the high jump last year and was the 2009 City League champion in the same event. Also a solid tennis player, Chapple earned a spot on the All-City Second Team.
In addition to her athletics prowess, Chapple is a solid student - having accrued a 3.9 cumulative GPA. She was named a Scholar Athlete at Northland last season and has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2009. Chapple has also served as a People to People student ambassador beginning in 2008 and is a two-time running Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholar.
