GREENVILLE, N.C. -Coming off a 3-1 week where the East Carolina baseball team captured its first series win of the season against then No. 10 South Carolina, the Pirates made a jump in five of the six polls Monday afternoon.
The Pirates (4-3) were tabbed No. 11 by Rivals.com (up two spots), No. 14 by Baseball America (up eight), No. 19 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (up three), No. 20 by PingBaseball (up two) and No. 21 by Collegiate Baseball(up one) and USA Today/ESPN poll (down three). Last week the USA Today/ESPN Poll did not put out a weekly ranking. The Pirates were tabbed preseason No. 18 from the publication back on Jan. 29.
This week's ranking marks the 22nd consecutive week, dating back to the start of the 2009 season, that the Pirates have been ranked in at least one national poll.
ECU will hit the road for the first time on Wednesday, Mar. 3 when they travel to High Point for a 4 p.m. first pitch at Williard Stadium. This weekend the Pirates will be back at home when they host the Seventh Annual Keith LeClair Classic from Mar. 5-7 welcoming in Illinois, West Virginia and Western Carolina.
