
Pirate Tennis Falls At UNC Greensboro, 5-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro used a doubles point and four singles wins to post a 5-2 non-conference victory over East Carolina at the UNCG Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.
With the victory, the Spartans improved to 4-1 while ECU dropped to 8-4.
UNCG took an early 1-0 advantage after sweeping doubles play. Stephanie Macfarlane and Alex Whitehead (UNCG) knocked off Jessica Cook and Audrey LePottier by a score of 8-2 at No.1, while Jessica Eblen and Annette Rios defeated Petra Vogel and Yilian Zhang 8-5 at No.2 flight. Valerie Behr and Mikayla Rogers closed out pairs action with an 8-4 triumph over Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs in a No. 3 battle.
East Carolina booked its pair of points when Cook outlasted Alex Whitehead 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 at No.1 and Vogel defeated Rogers 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
The Spartans captured four of six singles events with Macfarlane's 7-5, 6-2 victory over LePottier at No. 2 and Behr three set battle with Collins 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 3. To conclude the match Rios setback Zhang 7-6, 6-0 at No. 5 and Sachs falls to Skripkina 7-6, 7-6 at No. 6.
East Carolina will return to action next week when it travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a trio of non-conference matches. The first opponent for the squad will be Boston University on Monday, March 8.
