GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad recorded a non-conference doubleheader sweep with a 4-3 win over Davison and a 4-0 win over Presbyterian Saturday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The pair of victories extended ECU's season record to 16-7 and 8-0 at home while the Wildcats and Blue Hose fell to 12-6 and 4-14, respectively.
In the opener against the Davidson Wildcats, ECU clinched the doubles point after similar 9-7 wins by tandems Jessica Cook/Audrey LePottier and Natalie Collins/Tamara Sachs before splitting the six singles events.
In singles play action, LePottier dismissed Alison Rauh 6-1, 7-6 at No. 4 while Collins defeated Stephani Synn 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 and Petra Vogel survived Teresa Wang 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 to earn the team victory.
Davidson booked its victories when Ali Gores handled Yilian Zhang (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5, Samantha Galainena knocked off Abby Richmond (6-3, 6-4) at No. 6 and Virginia Berry outlasted Cook 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 at No. 1.
In the afternoon tilt against Presbyterian, the Lady Pirates claimed the match by winning three singles and doubles matches.
After ECU posted the doubles tally, Cook handed Heusel a 6-2, 6-1 loss at the No. 1 position for the Lady Pirates' second point. At No. 2, Vogel booked a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Oelke before LePottier dealt Cara Caruso a 6-1, 6-0 setback at No. 4 to end the match at 4-0.
Collins was in good standing to win the No.3 match over Megan Davis, after winning the first set 6-3 and going up 3-0 in the second set but it would go unfinished. The No. 5 and No.6 matches were not played.
East Carolina will take a day off before hosting South Carolina State on Monday for its last home game of the season. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
