GREENVILLE, N.C. -East Carolina sophomore Kevin Brandt tossed his first career complete game and struck out a career-best 11 batters to help the Pirates to a Conference USA series win Sunday afternoon over Memphis. The left-hander retired 19 of the last 20 batters faced with seven strikeouts.

Roller batted an impressive .727 (8-for-11) on the week helping the Pirates to a series win on the road against Memphis ... Registered four doubles with six RBI, three runs and three walks (all team highs) ... Extended his school record to 50 career hit by pitches after being plunked twice on the weekend ... During the Pirates 20-9 win on Saturday, he tied a career-high with five hits going 5-for-6 with four RBI ... With his RBI double in the first, Roller moved into a share of third place on the school's all-time RBI list with 189 ... He swiped his sixth base of the season in the series opener ... Posted a team-best .813 on-base percentage while slugging 1.091 ... Recorded a pair of multi-hit games and one multi-RBI contest ... Raised his batting average 44 points to .363 after collecting eight hits on the weekend ... On the season he is batting .363 (37-for-102) with seven home runs, 34 RBI, 29 runs scored, 12 doubles, 33 walks and 12 hit by pitches ... Currently owns a .554 on-base percentage, which leads the team.

Brandt tossed his first career complete game in the series finale against Memphis ... He struck out a career-best 11 batters, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with no walks for his third win of the season ... Retired 19 of the last 20 Tigers he faced with Trey Wiedman reaching on an error with two outs in the ninth ... From the third inning on fanned seven batters including Adam McClain to end the game ... Retired the side in five straight innings (4th through 8th) ... Faced 34 batters, hitting one and allowing a sac fly ... In eight starts this season Brandt has six quality starts (6.0 IP or more and 3 or less earned runs) where the Pirates have posted a 4-2 record ... Recorded his second double-digit strikeout performance of his career (10 vs. UNC on 4/22/09) ... On the season sports a 3.29 ERA with 54 strike outs to 16 walks in 52.0 innings of work.
PIRATE NOTES:
Junior Seth Maness recorded his sixth-straight win as a starter in the Pirates 20-9 win over Memphis in game two of the three game C-USA series ... He worked six innings allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks ... With the win he improved to 24-7 all-time at ECU (t-10th) and 14-1 all-time against C-USA teams in 18 starts ... Moved into 13th place on C-USA's all-time wins list ... Currently ranks third on the team with 50 punch outs while walking just nine in 50.1 innings.
Jared Avchen batted a team second-best .500 (4-for-8) with five RBI and four runs scored ... In game two against Memphis he was 3-for-5 with three RBI and shared the team lead with Corey Thompson scoring four runs ... Drove in the game winning run in the series finale against the Tigers with a two-RBI double in the second inning, the ninth GW RBI of his career.
Trent Whitehead batted .429 (6-for-14) with three RBI and three runs scored against Memphis ... Posted three-hit contests in the first two games before going 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk in the series finale ... Raised his batting average 13 points over the weekend to .317, which is fifth on the team.
Sophomore Zach Wright also drove in five runs on the weekend and batted .400 (4-for-10) ... In game two versus the Tigers was 3-for-3 with four RBI (tied career-high), two runs scored, two walks and a hit by pitch ... Recorded GW RBI, fourth of season, in the third inning on a double to left center that scored Kyle Roller ... Started all three games with two in left field ... Currently has the third highest average on the team .345 (30 for-87) and leads the squad with nine homes and 35 RBI ... Three of his nine homers have been grand slams, which is a single-season school record.
Freshman John Wooten smacked his first career grand slam against the Tigers in the second inning ... It was his fifth homer of the year and the Pirates fifth grand slam of the season (Gosik-1, Wright-3) ... Wooten redeemed himself in the second inning after leaving the bases loaded in the first when he struck out to end the frame ... He has started 27 of 28 games played sporting a .309 average with 23 RBI and 22 runs scored.
Junior Zach Woods had another solid outing Friday night versus the Tigers allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings of work ... He allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked none in the no-decision ... Three of his six starts have been quality outings where the Pirates own a 2-1 record ... Woods currently leads the team in ERA (3.18) and strikeouts (57), while ranking second in wins (4).
Head Coach Billy Godwin recorded his 181st win as the Pirates skipper Sunday against Memphis and picked up career win No. 443 ... He currently ranks fourth on the all-time wins list at ECU and needs five wins to move into third place passing ECU Hall of Famer Earl Smith (185).
