Women's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Loss to UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - The East Carolina women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to UCF to end the regular season. UCF swept doubles and took five of six singles matches to take the conference victory over the Pirates Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Golden Knights improved to 12-6 while the Pirates fell to 17-9 on the season.
UCF was poised to take the doubles point after claiming victories at the No. 3 and the No. 1 positions, respectively to open the match. Partners Taylor Dubins and Andrea Yacaman led off with an 8-2 win over Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs at the No.3 slot, followed by a Jenny Frisell and Alexis Rodriguez victory over Jessica Cook and Audrey LePottier, 8-4, at No.1. Christy Core and Allison Hodges defeated Petra Vogel and Yilian Zhang 8-6 at No.2 to complete the sweep.
In singles action, the Knights earned victories at the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 slots to earn the team win. At No. 1 Frisell handled Cook 6-1, 6-3 while Jenna Doerfler rallied back to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 over LePottier at No. 4. Hodges held off Zhang 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the win and Katie Orletsky dismissed Abby Richmond 6-0, 6-4.
ECU recorded two points after Vogel outlasted Rodriguez 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot while Collins avenged Yacaman 6-3, 6-4 at the No.3.
The Lady Pirates will now begin preparation for the Conference USA Championships which will begin Thursday, April 22 in Houston, Texas.
