
Tennis Earns No.7 Seed In C-USA Tournament

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina will begin its quest for a Conference USA Championship on Thursday against No.10 Houston at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The match is set for 10 a.m.
Under the tutelage of Tom Morris, ECU finished the regular season at 17-9 while Houston ended at 11-7. Both teams went 0-1 in conference play this season. In neutral sites this season, East Carolina has the advantage at 4-1 over Houston which is 2-1.
The Cougars were shut out by Southern Miss back in March and their finale against UAB was rained out. The Pirates suffered a 5-2 loss to UCF in their regular season finally.
Last year in the tournament Houston fell in the quarterfinals to host Rice while ECU was eliminated by Marshall. The two schools have not met in regular or post season since March 23, 2007. The Cougars walked away with the 4-3 win.
Freshman Petra Vogel and Sophomore Natalie Collins have led the Pirates throughout the current campaign. Vogel goes into her first conference tournament with a record of 18-4 on the year in singles play. In doubles play she is 13-9 with two partners. Collins, who plays mainly in the No. 3 slot, is on an 11-match win streak with an overall record of 17-5 in singles play. Her doubles play has been stable with an overall record of 13-9 with three different partners.
Other first round matches include No. 6 Tulane vs. No. 11 UAB (10:00 a.m.), No.8 Southern Miss vs. No.9 Memphis (2:00 p.m.) and No.5 UCF vs. No.12 UTEP (2:00 p.m.).
