
ECU Concludes Dual Meet Season Victorious

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. --- The East Carolina University men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded their dual meets seasons Saturday with a pair of wins over William & Mary. The ECU men defeated the Tribe 159.5-138.5, while the Lady Pirates were victorious by a score of 157-141.
The men's team finished the dual meet campaign with a record of 9-2, while the ladies completed the season with a 9-3 ledger.
"We swam very well in a really tough environment," Pirate coach Rick Kobe said. "I am so pleased with how hard our kids competed and all the hard work they have put in this season."
For the ladies, senior Jenna Stewart led the way with two individual and one relay first-place finish. Stewart touched 0.08 in front of William & Mary's Emily Burns to win the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.60. She won the 100-yard freestyle by nearly a full second over teammate Natalia Favoreto (52.14) with a time of 51.16.
Stewart and Favoreto teamed with Anna Gibas and Stephanie Harper to win the 400-yard medley relay with a Rec Center Pool record time of 3:51.11.
Gibas and Harper were also individual event winners. Gibas beat out teammate Kylie Francis by 0.65 in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.65. Harper won the 100-yard breaststroke by 1.28 seconds ahead of fellow Pirate Kristen Giese.
Holly Berenotto (1:54.12) also earned a first-place finish by touching just in front of Tribe junior Hailey Hewitt (1:54.28) in the 200-yard freestyle
On the men's side, freshman Attila Kiraly won 100 and 200-yard backstroke and was part of the pool-record setting 400-yard medley relay team.
Kiraly just touched ahead of Tribe sophomore Sidney Glass in the 100 backstroke by 0.23 with a time of 51.59. Kiraly finished six seconds ahead of Glass in the 200 with a time of 1:50.19 to set a new pool record.
Travis Stauder, Andrew Stoker and Geoffrey Bobsin joined Kiraly to break the nine-year old venue record in the 400-medley relay of 3:26.19 by 0.70 with a time of 3:25.51.
Stoker also earned a pair of individual first-place finishes in the 100 (50.68) and 200-yard butterfly (1:49.64). His time in the 200 was also a pool record.
Jonathan Bailey placed first in the 1000 -yard freestyle (9:49.55) nearly six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The diving events also belonged to ECU with sophomores Tyler Dunsmore, Kyle Comiskey and Katie Yamamoto along with junior Meghan Coyne earning top scores.
The Pirates will return to action Feb. 23 at the Conference USA Championships & Invitational in Houston.
