
UNCW Controls Singles, Blank Lady Pirates 7-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington did not drop a set in all six singles matches and used a pair of decisive doubles wins to earn a 7-0 non-conference victory over East Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the UNCW Courts.
The loss was the second-straight for the Lady Pirates and dropped their record to 12-5. The Seahawks improved their spring dual match mark to 15-3 with their sixth consecutive triumph.
UNC Wilmington opened play by capturing the doubles point, using a pair of 8-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots before Natalie Collins and Petra Vogel halted a sweep with an 8-5 win against Lindsay Leblang and Christina Lee at the No. 2 position to push their tandem record to 10-4 this season.
The Seahawks continued their strong performance in the singles competition, posting straight-set triumphs in all six matchups. Sophomore Yilian Zhang turned in the Lady Pirates' top effort, pushing Leblang before falling 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in a No. 6 meeting.
In other action, Olga Blank defeated Jessica Cook 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, Lee handed Vogel her fifth-straight loss with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2, Angela Sekely rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Collins at No. 3, Kelly Cameron posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Audrey LePottier at No. 4 and Neena Wanko had her five-match win-streak snapped by Chelsea Kahle (6-2, 6-2) at No. 5.
East Carolina will open a four-match homestand, which includes consecutive doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Pirates will square off against Charlotte (10 a.m.) and Mount Olive (5 p.m.) Friday before welcoming Conference USA rival UCF (10 a.m.) and North Carolina Central (4 p.m.) a day later.
