
ECU Blanks UNC Asheville To Capture 10th Win

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad captured all six singles matches to post its fifth-straight win with a 6-0 non-conference victory over UNC Asheville at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center late Saturday night.
The triumph, which also marked the Lady Pirates' fifth shutout of the spring season, improved ECU's dual match record to 10-2. The setback dropped the Bulldogs' slate to 5-5
Freshmen Neena Wanko and Manon Bissat, who played at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively, set the tone by cruising to a straight-set wins. Wanko dismissed Nicole Shon 6-3, 6-1 to contribute East Carolina's first tally, while Bissat followed with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Jackie McGuirk.
In other action, Jessica Cook handed Britney Cloer a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 loss at the No. 1 slot, Audrey LePottier rallied past Zoe Hamel 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and Petra Vogel outlasted Stephanie Shon 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 at No. 2. Yilian Zhang was awarded a default decision at No. 6 over an injured Devon Cavanaugh to produce the Lady Pirates' final point.
Doubles play was cancelled because of (facility) time limitations.
East Carolina will finally close out its eight-match roadswing Tuesday when it opens Conference USA action by playing Memphis in Charleston.
