GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior David Watkins has been named the Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week after he recorded a third-place individual finish and led the Pirates to the team title at the 2011 River Landing Intercollegiate. He carded three sub-par rounds en route to a season-best 207 tournament total.
The Hamlet, N.C. native carded a 54-hole tally of 9-under par (69-68-70=207), shooting under-par in all three rounds and posting a season-best tournament total. The performance was his fifth top 10 finish of the season while his second round 4-under 68 tied his lowest round of the season.
Watkins, who currently ranks as the No. 85 collegiate golfer in the nation, has led the Pirates in three tournaments during his junior year and has finished within the top-20 in the past nine events for the Pirates. The team title was the second for East Carolina this season and the first since taking honors at the ODU/OBX Collegiate on Oct. 24-26. It was also the seventh top-five finish for the team during the 2010-11 campaign.
With his efforts, Watkins earned the second Golfer-of-the-Week honor of his junior year and the fifth of his career.
