
ECU Sweeps Dual Meet With William & Mary

WILLAMSBURG, Va. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from William and Mary in Williamsburg on Saturday.
Both teams combined to win 17 events on the afternoon. The women pushed past the Tribe with a score of 166-94 bringing the Pirates' overall record to 5-1. The men pulled away with a 146-116 victory and improved to 4-1 this season.
The women started strong winning the first event of the meet, the 400 medley relay, by four seconds over the second-place Tribe team. The men placed second in both relay events.
Senior Holly Berenotto and sophomore Lauren Chew led the way for the women with both ladies winning a combined three events and placing second in two. Berenotto touched first in two events, the 200 freestyle (1:53.60) and the 100 freestyle (52.22) and finished second in the 50 freestyle (24.32). Chew won the 1000 freestyle (10:20.17) and finished second in the 500 freestyle( 5:04.83).
Freshman Bailie Monahan posted victories in two events as well. Monahan won both the 100 and 200 butterfly events to continue her freshmen campaign. Monahan posted a 56.91 time in the 100 butterfly, over a full second ahead of the second-place finisher. Monahan touched first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.46, almost two seconds ahead of teammate Lauren Gray.
Freshman Julien Dodu and sophomore Nikola Simic paced the men to victory. Dodu triumphed in the 500 freestyle (4:41.98) and 1000 freestyle (9:35.59). Simic captured victory in the 200 freestyle (1:42.68) and placed second in the 100 freestyle (46.78).
The Pirates will return to the pool Thursday as they begin competition for the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill.
