The first-place finish is the Pirates' first win since taking the River Landing Intercollegiate title last season and is the fifth top-four finish of the season. ECU started the day with a six-stroke lead over Wake Forest and extended its lead to win its seventh tournament under coach Press McPhaul.
Three Pirates tied for 13th-place at 4-over 220. Senior Harold Varner (82-70-68=220) posted the team's best third round with a 4-under 68. Varner combined to shoot 6-under in the final two rounds after shooting 10-over in the first round to salvage a top-15 finish.
Sophomore Ryan Eibner (76-72-72=220) shot par on the final 18 holes, which included a hole-in-one on No. 4. Eibner opened the tournament with a 4-over 76 before he pared the next two rounds. Junior Eric Brady (75-67-78=220) also finished alongside his teammates in 13th. Senior David Watkins (74-76-75=225) carded a 9-over and tied for 29th.
South Carolina's Wesley Bryan earned medalist honors with a 7-under 209 (68-71-70), edging Wake Forest's Cyrus Stewart (71-72-68=211) by two strokes.
The Pirates return to the links Monday, March 5 at the 15th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
