
Pirate Women's Hoops Impacting Community

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball program has been extremely active in the community during the summer and fall months, assisting and making an impact with numerous organizations in eastern North Carolina.
The Pirates' efforts ramped up for consecutive weekends at the end of May and beginning of June when they helped out at Greenville's Exceptional Community Baseball League. On Monday, June 2, players spent time at Red Oak Assisted Living in Greenville, before helping out at the Pamplico Tar River Foundation's River Jam on Saturday, June 14. The team finished up the month at the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center and provided help at the organization's breast cancer event on Wednesday, June 19.
On July 22 and 24, players dedicated their time at Greenville's Habitat for Humanity. At the conclusion of the summer term, the Pirates exceeded their initial benchmark of 500 combined hours of service.
After officially beginning practice on Monday, October 6, the Pirates continued to give back to the local community. Players and coaches spent time with the Pamplico Tar River Foundation at the town commons the following Saturday morning, Oct. 11, lending helping hands with Tar River cleanup.
Thus far, East Carolina Women's Basketball has logged 150 hours of community service during the Fall 2014 semester, and has more initiatives scheduled to get the team over 200 hours prior to tipping off its regular season slate.
The Pirates will open the 2014-15 campaign at the URI Invitational in Kingston, R.I., Nov. 14-15 and take on Fairfield and Rhode Island. The Pirates will begin their home slate Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., when College of Charleston comes to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
