
Pirates In Second Place At All-North Carolina Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving team each find themselves in second place behind leader NC State after day one of the two-day All-North Carolina Invitational being held at Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Pirates trail the Wolfpack by 25 points on the women's side and 70 on the men's.
The NC State women finished the day with 524 points followed by ECU (499), Davidson (404), Gardner-Webb (340) and Campbell (285). The Wolfpack men completed the day with 557 points followed by ECU (487), Davidson (382), Gardner-Webb (315) and St. Andrew's (252).
The Pirates began Friday evening's final with a third-place finish in the women's 200 free relay as the foursome of, Anastasia Amoiroglou, Erin Polich, Bailie Monahan and Tori Angermeier turned in a time of 1:36.68. The men's 200 free relay team of Nikola Simic, Shawn Hunter, Eyan Eagle and Trevor Irish also recorded a bronze medal finish in a time of 1:24.26.
The next event, the 500 freestyle, saw Lauren Chew finished in fourth-place with a time of 5:00.31. Freshman Boleck De Pawlikowski, also recorded a fourth-place finish in the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.27.
The 200 individual medley saw junior Bailie Monahan capture first-place on the women's side with a time of 2:06.41. Freshman Julie Lajoie claimed fourth place with seniors Charlsie Lincoln and Danielle Morrin finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Senior Rokas Cepulis earned a third-place finish with a mark of 1:52.36 in the men's event.
Amoiroglou and Anna Maria Svanbergsson were the Pirates' top finishers in the women's 50 freestyle, placing sixth and seventh. Simic was the team's top finisher in the men's 50 free with a time of 20.90 to claim sixth-place.
Angermeier and Monahan teamed with Jera Majeric and Megan Sellers to earn a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:50.15. Cepulis and Simic paired with Andre Smedstad and Dan Woods to capture the silver medal on the men's side with a mark of 3:24.23.
Alicia Roueche and Ashley Sams finished second and third, respectively, on the women's 1-meter springboard and Matt Mullen took second-place on the men's 3-mter springboard.
The Pirates will return to the pool on Saturday for the final day of competition at the All-North Carolina Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., from the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
