EAST CAROLINA HEAD COACH Jeff Lebo
Opening Statement
"It was good to see some guys out there who haven't played in a long time, get the kinks out and we have a lot of guys out there who haven't played basketball in a long time. I thought we did some good things. We got to the line really well in the first half , but fouled too much the second half. We didn't shoot it very well from the three but, shot over 50 percent from the field although we missed some easy ones around the rim." but you could see that some of our new guys are talented guys."
"B.J. Tyson did some great stuff for us. Terry Whisnant didn't shoot it great but was acrobatic and talented. I thought Marshall was solid out there. He didn't look winded playing 25 minutes in the game. Michel, you see his motor out there. He gave us low minutes; 18 points and double figure rebounds, that was great to see. Good team win. I like looking down finally at the minutes and not seeing 39, 38, 36, 38. We had a nice balance there."
On the ability to use depth unlike last season
"Right now we've got two guys that I thought were going to be in our rotation that are out. I think the one thing you saw tonight was that not having your leader out there and not having your best defender out there in Paris was a factor for us tonight. Zangari's a guy who played a lot of minutes for us last year that we think we can go to also. It's up to [the players] to decide who's going to be in the rotation. I tell them that all the time, it's not up to me. You all decide by your play who's going to get in. Who I can trust and who the team trust me to play in the game. My captains have already told me that coach, don't put in guys that you don't trust because we trust what you think. So that's something that they have to earn every day."
Sophomore Marshall Guilmette
On being back on the court in game
"It was amazing. Obviously it has been a long comeback; I have talked to you before about the road to recovery. It has been tough and I have been looking forward to it ever since I went out. It was just an awesome experience being out there again. There was a big crowd and a lot of energy out there. I had a blast."
On the team's state of mind after the technical fouls
"You know after it got kind of heated there, we just said we need to keep our cool. You know in those situations playing teams like this you can kind of lose your head. You know they were calling it really tight there. That technical foul that one time I was like there they were calling it tight. So we just wanted to calm down and get back to what we have been doing and just keep in the rhythm of the game."
Sophomore Michel-Ofik Nzege
On posting a double-double in his ECU debut
"First I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for having a good game. All my team had a good game, nobody was hurt. It felt good to be out there to bring a lot of energy and that is what Coach Lebo and that's what the rest of the coaching staff and my teammates expect out of me, run the floor try to get as many rebounds as I can, play hard defense and I think that is what I have done tonight."
On the style of play to expect from this team
"I think you can expect a lot of different things from this team. We still have a lot of really good three point shooters. We have Terry Whisnant, Prince has improved his shot, B.J. Tyson can shoot the ball, Antonio, Lance. We have a lot of really good shooters. Mostly now we have guys who can attack the basket. We have a lot of height. That is what we missed last year. We only had one real big guy that was Mike who is hurt right now but he will be back soon. So I think you can expect a lot of different things like post, drive to the basket and still a lot of 3s."
