Pirates Continue Competition at The Nike Cup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- East Carolina senior Rokas Cepulis and junior Megan Sellers each posted an NCAA `B' qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke Friday night on day two of the 2014 Nike Cup Invitational hosted by North Carolina at Koury Natatorium.
The Pirates remain in the fifth-place in the women's competition with 596 points. Tennessee (1408) sits atop the standings followed by North Carolina (1777), NC State (932.5) and Duke (786.5). The host Tar Heels (1080.5) lead the men's competition by 61.5 points over NC State (1019) with Tennessee (949), Air Force (914) and Navy (586.5) rounding out the top-5. ECU is sixth with 568 points.
In addition to registering a NCAA `B' qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, Sellers earned second-place in the event with a time of 1:01.30. Freshman Vendela Norrman also competed in the finals of the event and claimed seventh-place in a time of 1:03.59.
Sophomore Tori Angermeier reached the final of the women's 200 free and finished in eighth-place with a mark of 1:50.91.
Will Beliveau and Andre Smedstad also earned a spot in the final race of their respective events. Beliveau posted a score of 276.50 on the men's 3-meter springboard to claim seventh-place, while Smedstad finished eighth in the men's 100 back.
Cepulis came in fourth place in the 100 breast with a mark of 54.26.
ECU will be back in action Saturday morning for the third and final day of competition. The preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m. and the finals will take place at 5:30 p.m.
