Pirates Conclude Competition At The Nike Cup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- East Carolina senior Rokas Cepulis set the Nike Cup record in the men's 200-yard breaststroke Saturday on the final day of competition at Koury Natatorium on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Cepulis' time of 1:55.88 in the event is fastest to date among all NCAA Division I swimmers this season.
Freshman Bolek De Pawlikowski advanced to the finals of the men's 200-yard backstroke and established a new ECU freshman record with a time of 1:47.88, to earn a fourth-place finish. Senior Nikola Simic recorded a place fifth in the finals of the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.48.
Freshman Vendela Norrman set both the ECU freshman and varsity record during the preliminaries of women's 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:13.87. She then claimed second-place in the finals, followed by junior Megan Sellers in third-place.
Senior Lauren Chew set the varsity record in the women's 1000 and 1650-yard freestyle, earning a fifth-place finish in the 1650 free. Junior Bailie Monahan also earned a fifth-place finish in the women's 200-yard butterfly.
Both the ECU men's and women's team finished in fifth-place in the team standings with Tennessee winning the women's event and NC State capturing first-place in the men's competition.
