EAST CAROLINA HEAD COACH Jeff Lebo
Opening statement
"It's a good win for our team and I thought we did a lot of good things out there today. Both teams came out in the first eight minutes and didn't miss very many shots. Both teams really offensively challenged in a lot of ways up to this point but didn't look like that the first eight minutes."
"Our freshmen really played well. It was nice to see Lance Tejada go 4 of 6 from 3, grab five rebounds, hand out two assists with no turnovers. He's been pressing a little bit it, so it was great to see him put some balls in the basket. Michel was terrific tonight, scoring the ball with his back to the basket. They didn't have a big shot blocker in there, but I thought that it was very effective. Twenty assists on 31 made baskets, that's a nice number to see and we out-rebounded them. That's been our big thing. We've won four games when we out-rebounded our opponent and lost three when they out-rebounded. That's going to be a challenge all year no doubt about that. Nice to see our two freshmen guards lead us in rebounding."
On Lance Tejada's play
"It was good to see Lance make some shots. He's really worked hard at it and he's been frustrated that the ball wasn't going in. He's a young player and hopefully he'll come out of that and be consistent for us."
Sophomore Michel-Ofik Nzege
On his performance
"I was in a drought when I went to Florida, and I felt like I didn't bring my usual energy to the team in practice or in a game. So tonight I definitely felt like I had to come out aggressive and with a lot of energy. I think I did that pretty well tonight."
On the team sharing the basketball
"It is the type of game we are playing and it is the type of system we are in. Anybody can score 18 or 20 points a night. Tonight was me, tomorrow it could be Terry (Whisnant), Antonio (Robinson), it could be Lance (Tejada). It is just the way the system works, and we are not concerned who gets the most points. We are just concerned on executing the offense and coming out with a victory."
Freshman Lance Tejada
On breaking out of his shooting slump
"I started off my season slow, especially shooting the ball. It feels good. I was in a drought and once you see the ball go through the rim a few times, it boosst your confidence and you don't think twice after that."
On team's shooting performance
"It's fun when everybody is going. It is a big thing for us to get everybody involved and let the game come to you."
On the start of his college career
"It is all a process, I'm still a freshman and a lot of people can't get past that. My first few college games did not go as plan, but I just have to keep pushing and keep going forward. I know what I am capable of, and I just have to keep getting comfortable around the team. Also to know that Coach Lebo has faith and trust in me to lead this team."
