
ECU Swim Teams Split Tri-Meet

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The East Carolina swim teams split a tri-meet with host South Carolina and College of Charleston Saturday afternoon at the Carolina Natatorium on the campus of the University of South Carolina. The men's team defeated the Cougars 158-129, while falling to the host Gamecocks 169-104. On the women's side, ECU defeated College of Charleston 153-138, but fell to South Carolina by a score of 157-116.
ECU's Bailie Monahan finished the afternoon with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly as well as the 200 IM. Monahan touched the wall in a time of 2:02.02 in the 200 fly, while finishing the 100 fly in a time of 56.48 before capturing first-place with a time of 2:05.26 in the 200 IM. She also swam the third leg of the 400 medley relay and helped her team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:48.82.
The ECU women completed their sweep of the relay events with a win in the 200 free relay with Anastasia Amoiroglou, Megan Sellers, Anna Marie Svanbergsson and Tori Angermeier winning with a time of 1:35.39. Angermeier posted an individual first-place finish in the 100 free with a mark of 51.64, while freshman Vendela Norrman touched first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.44 as the Pirates won seven of 14 events.
On the men's side, the Pirates ended the afternoon with two total first place finishes. Senior Nikola Simic took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.04 and swam leadoff for the Pirates' first-place 200 free relay team accompanied by Shawn Hunter, Michael Dugan and Trevor Irish with a time 1:23.03.
In the diving competition, a trio of ECU divers qualified for the NCAA Regional Zone Championships on the 3-meter springboard: Alicia Roueche, Matt Mullen and Alex Clark, each posting a season-best score. Mullen placed third in the men's 3-meter competition with a qualifying score of 333.30 with Clark finishing fourth with a final tally of scoring 323.50. Roueche claimed fifth-placed in the women's event with a score of 285.30.
ECU will return to the pool Nov. 20 as the Pirates travel to Chapel Hill to compete in the 2014 Nike Cup at Koury Natatorium on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
