Pirate Nation, welcome back to the All Hands On Deck blog from Birmingham, Ala., home of the 2014 Birmingham Bowl.
Wednesday marked a full day of football activities and bowl events for the Pirates down south. Up first was East Carolina's second scheduled workout of the week leading up to this Saturday's game. Senior running back Breon Allen left the two-hour workout session with an injury and will be evaluated daily leading up to the contest.
The first bowl event of the week was a visit to the Civil Rights Institute down on famous 16th Street in Birmingham. The team broke up into three different groups going through 90-minute tour learning about the history of the city and America's Civil Right's movement.
ECU's night ended with the Bowling and BBQ Team Challenge at the Vestavia Bowl Family and Fun Center with the Florida Gators. The two teams occupied 36 bowling lanes with two in the middle set aside for the team competition. ECU's six-man team dropped the 10-frame match by 46 points, but was led by graduate assistant coach Kyle Chase's score of 150.
The Pirates will return to the practice field Thursday afternoon with a closed 90-minute practice before heading to the Children's of Alabama Hospital and then a team dinner at the StarDome Comedy Club.
