
ECU To Host Intrasquad Meet To Open New Season

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina University Swimming and Diving team will host its annual Purple-Gold Intrasquad meet Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. inside Minges Natatorium.
The event marks the beginning of coach Rick Kobe's 33rd year at the helm of the Pirates' program. Kobe ranks first among all active NCAA Division I coaches with 501 career dual meet victories, which ranks sixth all-time.
Saturday's intrasquad meet will give fans their first look at the 2014-15 Pirates. ECU returns 13 student-athletes that earned All-Conference USA accolades, including 100-yard breaststroke champion and NCAA Championship competitor Megan Sellers.
Sellers became the first ECU female swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2006 last season, participating in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Senior Rokas Cepulis also partook in the NCAA Championships, becoming the first ECU male swimmer to qualify for the national championship meet since 1979, competing in three events: 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM.
Cepulis and senior Jeffrey Mead will serve as the captains of the ECU men's team, while Lauren Chew. Lauren Gray and Danielle Morrin will captain the women's squad.
The 2013-14 campaign features a trio of dual meets at Minges Natatorium. The Pirates host Davidson on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m., College of Charleston on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. and Old Dominion on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The season begins Oct. 3 at the All-North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Greensboro will also serve as the site of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held Feb. 18-21. The NCAA Women's Championship will also be in Greensboro. March 19-21, while the men's national championship will be March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
